Hi everyone! 🦈🌴 Today I have an extremely interesting fact to share with you all: Sharks appeared on Earth way before trees did! 😲 That's right, these "big bosses" of the deep blue ocean "arrived" before those "little ones" on land could even grow! 🌊🦈 > 🌱🌳
According to fossil evidence, the first shark species were already swimming around happily 450 million years ago, in the Silurian period. Meanwhile, it took 100 million more years, until the Devonian period, for large plant species to start developing and thriving on land.
This makes sense, as life first emerged in the ocean. In the aquatic environment, single-celled organisms evolved and developed into fish, including the ancestors of sharks. On the other hand, conditions on land were much harsher, so it took hundreds of millions of years more for plants to adapt and be able to grow.
Just imagine, when the first sharks were gliding through the ocean, there wasn't a single tree on land yet! 🌊🦈🚫🌳 The sharks must have been so proud to appear way before their "juniors" on land. Who knows, maybe they even teased: "Hey you trees, what took you so long to get here?" 😜
And until today, after nearly half a billion years of existence, sharks have witnessed 5 mass extinctions but still survived and thrived. What a tenacious species! Meanwhile, many plant species have gone completely extinct. The sharks can still snicker: "See, we've been here since the beginning of time, while you guys wither so quickly!" 😏
However, shark populations are drastically declining these days due to human activities. If we don't protect them in time, for the first time in history, sharks may face extinction! 😱 Then the trees could retort: "Yeah, we appeared later than you, but now you're about to disappear before us!" Let's hope that doesn't happen and sharks will forever remain the "big brothers" of all species! 💪🦈🌿
