Did you know that before becoming the search engine giant 🌐 Google today, in 1996 it had an extremely cute and adorable name 🥰 - BackRub! 😄✨
Why such a "strange" name 🤔❓ Because Google's initial algorithm analyzed backlinks 🔗 to estimate the importance of a website 📊. To put it more "humanely", BackRub would check how many links from other web pages pointed to that page, thereby evaluating its importance and credibility on the Internet 🌐. Therefore, the name BackRub was really "making sense" 😉 and accurately reflected Google's core algorithm in the early days!
However, founders 👨💻👨💻 Larry Page and Sergey Brin quickly realized that BackRub was not a friendly brand name 😅. It sounded a bit "weird" 😬 and didn't really fit to represent their vision. So they decided to change the company name to Google, based on the word "googol" in mathematics 🔢, the number 1 followed by 100 zeros (10^100) 🤯.
